Half-Arsed Haiku – 6 Jan 2015

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree (c) The Kintsugi Girl

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree (c) The Kintsugi Girl

On Christmas Being Officially Over

Twelve nights passed, baubles boxed,
branches stripped bare, glitter gone
rainbow unplugged, house dull

Have a slightly sad-looking tree, devoid of decoration standing in the corner of the room.  Nice to have the house ‘back’ though – seems bigger now!  I shall miss the fairy lights though, that rainbow of colour. Love nothing more than sitting in a quiet, dark room and gazing at the tree. Even better when you are myopic like me….try taking your specs off… the lights look even more magical.  In fact who says the fairy lights have to get packed away.  They bring me joy so I’m just going to find somewhere else to string them… we all need a bit more magic and colour in our life.

    Great ‘ku 🙂

I understand completely — a bit heartbreaking to take the lights down. SO — at the front door we have an “iron tree” which I decorate for whatever season. Blue for “just plain winter”, green for St. Patrick’s, pastels for spring and Easter, oranges and yellows in fall, white for other seasons. And, oh yeah! — multicolored for Christmas. And I too sit without my glasses and enjoy the fuzzy, expanding lights.

If it brings you joy, then, WHY NOT? Go for it. 😀

I think I might steal your idea and get my own non-Christmas tree tree!

That would be great — it really brightens the place up, makes you feel happier, brings extra light and sparkle into the house. Plus it’s an extra outlet for expression. One year I had pink/yellow lights with tiny birdies and pink blossoms for spring.

How exciting — I really, really hope you do it 😀
        All the best —

I love it when the Christmastree has been removed, but the little lights have found another place in our living room … because we like the twinkling of those starry lights … so I can empathize with you.

Great response. I have another week until I can remove the decorations. Still waiting for family. I leave icicle lights in the arch way year round and just add other ornaments to the string at Christmas. It’s sad to remove it all but I sure will be glad for the space.

We take our lights down today .. so sad when they’re gone …

The lights do look nice, and your haiku showed they must stay twinkling.
